Matthew 5:17-20

Matthew 5:17-20

Christ's purpose for coming
To fulfill the law and the prophets
Not to destroy them.

The law. Nothing will pass from it until it has all been fulfilled

The law is important.  Christ makes it clear He isn't trying to get rid of it.  He fulfills it.  How does He say when can follow the law:  love The Lord my God with all my heart soul mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.  The law is fulfilled by love.  Everything intertwines together to fulfill God's plans for our lives, and for the lives of others.

Jesus encourages to keep these commands and teach them.

The one who breaks them is called least in the kingdom of heaven.  The one who keeps them is called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Righteousness:  doing things right.
Our righteousness should exceed
That of the Pharisees and scribes.
