Peter asks what do we get for giving up what we have?

Matthew 19:27-30

Peter is quick to point out after the rich man walks away, "we left it all and follow You."  And then he asks:"so what do we have from it?"

Look at us Jesus we did this. Now what are you going to give us?

Jesus doesn't knock Peter down for this.  Instead He gives assurance of His promises:

The timing of His Promise:
When the regeneration happens/when Jesus sits on the throne of His glory

This promise is for:
Those who followed Him - will sit on the twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.
Everyone who leaves it all for His name

The Promise:
will receive a hundredfold and inherit eternal life

Jesus summary of how to live: the last shall be first and the first shall be last

Application:
Jesus sees us.  He asks His followers to live surrendering everything to Him.  He is faithful to fulfill the promises He makes.  It may not look the way that it would look to the world.  His kingdom is giving what you have for others.  For His namesake.  To put others first.  He spent all of His ministry doing that.
He promises eternal life.  Stand on that promise knowing this life is not the end.  It's the beginning.
